Work is starting to create Futura
the Museum of Girls and Boys in Bologna, which will be built in the heart of the Pilastro
The construction of Futura, the museum for girls and boys in Bologna, the new cultural hub destined to become a national reference point for education and the dissemination of knowledge aimed at the 0-12 age group, is starting these days and ending in March 2027.
It will be a lively and dynamic space, made of experiences and knowledge, where young visitors can learn by doing, experimenting, manipulating and playing.
The museum will be created at the Pilastro, in the Mauro Mitilini, Andrea Moneta, Otello Stefanini park, near the Luigi Spina Library, the Yellow House and the future stop of the red tram line.
The project
The new building, of 1,500 square meters, will be arranged on 3 floors including a green roof accessible for laboratory activities and games.
Among the main functions planned: dynamic exhibition environments, creative ateliers, a sensory gym for early childhood, a laboratory dedicated to food education, a cafeteria suitable for girls and boys.
The name
The Bolognese boys and girls who participated in the city contest What do you want to call it?, launched on 20 November 2023. Through a postcard distributed in Salaborsa and in the city's public reading libraries, they were in fact able to suggest their idea. The contest ended in March 2024 and, among the approximately 300 proposals received, the Jury chose Futura: a feminine name, which looks far away and contains a vision of growth, change and possibility. A name that, also recalling the famous song by Lucio Dalla, is deeply rooted in the Bolognese identity, symbolically representing the role of the new generations, the future of the city
