Project with high schools in Bologna

Technology is changing perceptions and ways of living, offering tools to explore new ways of interaction and learning and to expand opportunities for socialization between real and virtual.

What are the connections between Rugby and the Metaverse (virtual reality)?

Rugby and the Metaverse. A journey into emotions, is a pioneering project supported by the City of Bologna and designed for the Bologna Rugby Club by Erika Morri, founder of Wo*Men's sport land of freedom, where sport acts as a bridge between the metaverse and reality.

The project will involve 250 students from five high schools in Bologna (Liceo Laura Bassi, IPSAR Luigi Veronelli, Istituto Superiore I.J.Keynes-Castel Maggiore, ITCS Gaetano Salvemini-Casalecchio di Reno, IIS Belluzzi Fioravanti) in the world's first mixed media rugby tournament, half played in virtual and half in real, starting Thursday, March 27 at 10.15 am.

A Tournament in Two Worlds

After training at school, the students will decide for themselves whether to participate:

  • In the Metaverse at Fondazione Golinelli.

The world premiere of rugby in the metaverse, where students, through personalized avatars, will compete in an immersive virtual environment, experimenting with new forms of interaction and learning.

  • In Reality at the “Pier Paolo Bonori” Sports Center.

The tournament on the rugby field, where students and students will play RUGBY TAG, a contactless version of rugby, where
the participants wear a belt with two tails that will be used to stop the opponent as an alternative to tackling.

The project aims to:

  • promote social inclusion and the fight against educational poverty through sport and technology;
  • develop an innovative educational model that integrates the metaverse into learning and socialization;
  • stimulate critical reflection on the use of new technologies and their impact on society;
  • promote personal growth and the development of soft skills.

Are you curious to experience together with Bolognese students the challenge of playing a contact sport... in a virtual version?
