Travel and observation in the field are confirmed to be the most powerful levers of the Erasmus+ program, capable of transforming a week of school into a profound moment of growth and inspiration. A group formed by a pedagogue, two educators and a teacher from the educational services of the City of Bologna experienced an intense experience of job shadowing, immersing themselves in a dynamic and welcoming school environment, guided by an open educating community proud of its goals.

During this experience, every space, every routine and every meeting have become an incentive to look at the future of our services with new eyes.
One of the aspects that most impressed the participants was the management of the meal time during which boys and girls experience real self-management through the independent portioning of food: letting them decide how much and how to serve themselves stimulates the ability to listen to their bodies and their satiety; lunch loses the rigidity of the traditional routine and is transformed into a moment of spontaneous socialization, where mutual help between peers becomes natural.

Through projects shared with the territory — such as the “Maternathlon”, a sporting event that saw girls and young boys collaborate with high school girls and boys — the school has proven to be the engine of the local community.
The participants observed how this synergy between different ages generates immediate benefits: it develops a strong sense of belonging to the community; it trains the empathy and relational skills of adults and children; it offers girls and boys positive behavior models to be inspired by.

In addition, initiatives such as pre-setting workshops (open to future registrations with families) and local outings, such as those at the neighborhood media library, show a fluid school, capable of constantly communicating with the outside world.

The experience inspired a rich reflection on the materials and methods to be valued when returning to the services of Bologna.
